Project to support family friendly and inclusive Local Authorities: making the role of Local Council

NWC have received funding from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage to develop a toolkit that can be used by all Local Authorities to enable actions to be taken to support councillors with caring responsibilities. Research will be carried out to examine the current issues for councillors with caring and family responsibilities and inform practical recommendations and guidance on how to address these barriers in a toolkit. The research will invite and seek the views of local councillors, local authority and other relevant stakeholders to identify what supports and measures need to be put in place to ensure entering and remaining in local political life is a realistic, accessible option and choice for women in all their diversity.

Sinead Doody has been contracted to carry out the research and to develop the toolkit.  NWC have convened a steering group to support this project made up of members and stakeholders.  We plan to have a report finalised in February 2022.
